Thank you for your interest in becoming an SO4S Scholar. Our primary goal is to recruit, develop, and retain exceptional tutors who are committed to promoting educational excellence.
SO4S Scholars was created to bring local jobs and learning to school communities by recruiting outgoing high school and college students to tutor and mentor their younger peers. Most importantly, we are diligently working with local educational institutions to close the academic and economic achievement gaps that exist in every community throughout our nation.
What are the benefits of peer tutoring? According to the National Tutoring Association the Benefits to students:

- Improves self-esteem, as they become more successful students
- Improves academic achievement
- Improves attitude towards the subject matter and school in general
- Encourages greater persistence in completing tasks and courses
- Encourages the use of appropriate and efficient learning and study strategies

Kalkowski (1995) reported the following additional benefits to students:

Our Hiring Track
If you are a student in high school or college and in the top of your class, this may be the perfect job for you. We are looking for 10th -12th grade students in high school that excel in their subject matter and are in the top of their class. Local college students are also highly encouraged to apply. To be a tutor, you have to be responsible, personable, able to successfully communicate to a student, have a reliable form of transportation, and be available a minimum of four hours per week.
If you meet these requirements, then please click on the “Become a Scholar” link to begin the application process. Before starting, take a few minutes to download the Parent/Guardian Consent Form which must be completed by all applicants younger than 18 years of age and uploaded with the application. In addition, please have the following documents ready for upload: unofficial transcripts, SAT and/or ACT score report, and a copy of your Government issued Passport or photo identification such as driver's license, school i.d. w/picture, military i.d., and voter's registration.
After all initial paperwork has been completed and submitted, we will review for consideration of employment. If employment is offered you will also be required to furnish a copy of your social security card and successfully complete a criminal background screening.
